Industrial Gases – Different Types of Industrial Gases and its Uses

Industrial gases are used in most industrial activities. The applications and purposes are therefore very diverse. This is why the needs of professional industrial gas users vary considerably. There are many products, supply methods, and other solutions for industrial gases. Therefore, contacting a professional recognized as a solution provider is essential for the smooth running of your business.

Industrial Gases: Details

Industrial gases are by definition, manufactured gases, some resulting from the distillation of air, oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and rare gases and other sources for helium, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, etc. They are exclusively intended for industrial or medical applications either pure or in the mixture. These gases improve the efficiency of industrial processes, reduce the carbon footprint and improve working conditions.

Examples of industries concerned

Aeronautics: Industrial gas is used here in the manufacturing process of aeronautical parts but also within the framework of the upkeep and maintenance of these: treatment of materials, heat treatment, welding,g,, and in particular the inflation of pneumatic tires.

Nitrogen

  • Automotive suppliers: Industrial gas manufacturers use industrial gases at different points in the manufacturing and assembly process: heat treatments, surface coatings, cutting, welding of materials, etc.
  • Food industry: Industrial gases are used in the food industry at different stages of processing, packaging, and also the transport of food products. From temperature control to atmospheric conditioning, CO2 is the tool of gas par excellence: in greenhouses where algae are produced, to the use of its weak acid properties for water treatment, its use is always developing more.
  • The beverage industry is also concerned, in particular those which produce carbonated drinks.

BTP – Construction:

For different types of construction ranging from residential to energy infrastructure, industrial gases are used in particular for the manufacture, cutting, and welding of steel. The manufacture of multilayer flat glass via float glass installations requires hydrogen, the supply of which must be flawless.

Inert gases, what gases are and what they are used for?

Among the inert gases, the most used are helium and argon; argon is a gas contained in the air we breathe and which is extracted through a forced distillation process, helium is a gas that is extracted from methane. It is necessary to clarify that it is true that these gases are the most expensive but they are the only ones that occur in nature and that compared to the Crypto, Xeno,n, and Neon gases they are much cheaper and more accessible. These Inert Gases are used for TIG and MIG welding.

Active gases, what gases are and what they are used for?

Active gases are gases that are composed of mixtures in which we find argon and other gases such as nitrogen and oxygen, hydrogen, n, and carbon dioxide, which are divided into binary or tertiary (depending on the amount of gas present). The choice of gases depends mainly on the factors that relate to the material to be welded. The main aspects to be taken into consideration ar: the presence, Physico-chemical, filler material, thickness, mechanical properties, aesthetics, and welding speed.

Argon industrial gas

Argon industrial gas is distilled directly from liquid air with not too excessive costs. Given its nature, it is mainly used to weld non-ferrous metals. The main feature is that it does not mix with the molten pool and during the welding phase, it can eliminate the presence of micro-pores by limiting blowholes inside.

Carbon dioxide industrial gas

Carbon dioxide is used in GMAW welds, compared to Argon it costs much less and at room temperature, it behaves very similarly to inert gas and is stable and non-reactive with the rest of the elements. If it is compared to high temperatures, on the contrary, it becomes reactive and releases molecular oxygen which can be counteracted by using deoxidizing material during the welding phase. In addition to being economical as a gas, it has an excellent penetration coefficient and an excellent execution speed.

Oxygen Industrial gas

Oxygen is a gas that is extracted from water by an electrolysis process and the air by fractional distillation. It can be combined with many natural elements but not with inert gases and is an excellent additive in helium and argon blends.
